An Illinois native, I just moved to Marin County, California for an 11 month AmeriCorps internship with SPAWN, a watershed protection non-profit. I've lived my whole life in Illinois and am absolutely a midwesterner, so this is a new phase of my life and a huge adventure for me. Read on!

ThroatLand Security

I've decided that my hypochondria should have levels like the terror alerts the White House has. Green for everything's fine, I don't think I have a disease or terminal illness; Yellow for maybe have a cold coming or something bigger but nothing terminal or life threatening; Orange for not dying but something's bad; and Red for I have something terminal and awful and debilitating.

Right now I'm at red because I've decided I have throat cancer. Yes, there is a tumor in my throat and I'm probably dying from it. Hopefully soon I will go to the doctor (and they will probably tell me I'm crazy and I just have plaque buildup or something lame), but until then, I will continue to worry.

i just had to post this quote from seinfeld after reading your entry:

GEORGE: When I asked him if it was cancer, he didn't give me a "get outta here". That's what I wanted to hear: "Cancer? Get outta here?"

JERRY: Well, maybe he doesn't have a "get outta here" kind of personality.

GEORGE: How could you be a doctor and not say "get outta here"? It should be part of the training at medical school: "Cancer? Get outta here!" "Go home! What are you crazy? It's a little test. It's nothing. You're a real nut. You know that?"

get well soon

Eeeeek! Not Red Level hypochondria. (I actually know EXACTLY what you mean. I had "throat cancer" a couple years ago went to the doctor and was told that I just had a HELL of ALOT of phlegm running down the back of my throat that made it feel like it was closing up and had a lump when it was really just dry and irritated. What a let down (: )

So... HI NATALIE it's Annie, Your mother sent me a really nice letter the other day and it had the address for this blog in it so I had to check it out.

Your internship sounds really interesting. What a unique opportunity. Hopefully the school groups don't get you down too much.

Good luck with the "throat cancer" hope you feel fabulous soon so you can focus on taking action pictures of spawning salmon ;)

I'll bookmark your blog so I can see how the fish and you are doin' from time to time. (Seeing as the last time I talked to you was like 4 or 5 years ago it'll be cool to see what you're up to a bit more often!)
